YOUNGJOO KIM

Youngjoo  Kim creates “conditions.” By her specific preset of choices in the act of making, the artist creates an abstract mode of communication that redefines how an image has been perceived in the history of painting.

About the Artist

Youngjoo Kim intentionally uses canvas, pigment, and form to explore the limits of painting and materiality. In introducing materials as agents in her practice, Kim fosters a critical conversation between completed object and creation, and the efficacy of the unseen process in a work. Kim discovers shape though a playful dance between color, texture and lines. Soft, sweeping panels of painted linen crescent into sharp corners and keyholes where unbleached linen and wall peek through. A precarious balance is quietly struck as her organic shapes are pulled taught over a stretcher and brought together into a final work.
